Mrs. Lois Barney

Dear Superheroes,

It is with great honor and excitement that I introduce myself as Austin Road Elementary School’s principal.  My passion for education and supporting the success of all students has been shaped over the past 26 years as a teacher in grades first through fifth, an instructional coach, and an assistant principal. In each of these roles, I have sought to ensure the success of each student and school by providing the best instructional opportunities and support possible.

It is my goal to continue to strive for academic excellence by promoting the growth mindset, retaining highly qualified teachers, implementing personalized learning, promoting student agency, analyzing data, and establishing a supportive culture and climate for all stakeholders. Most importantly, our school motto “Always Reaching Excellence, Excellence in Everything” will continue to be implemented through great collaboration with students, parents, and teachers. I believe, with enthusiasm and pride, we can develop a community of believers. Therefore, promoting an environment where all stakeholders feel valued and working together to develop 21st century learners are my top priorities.

Once again, I am so thankful and extremely excited to have the opportunity to serve as your principal. We will work together to develop a school we are all proud of and be one of the best schools in the Henry County.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Lois Barney
Principal
Austin Road Elementary School

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year at Austin Road Elementary! We are excited to welcome everyone back to school for a year filled with opportunities to access learning. Our theme for this year is " Learning is a Team Sport. Get in the Game, Game On!" We believe that all students can be successful when given the tools necessary for success, as we provide high quality instruction. Our work will continue to align with our vision and mission to become a high performing school where life-long learning is fostered through creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking. We will build strong meaningful relationships with our students and provide rigorous and effective instruction for all students. We will continue to prioritize instructional time in order to give our students what they need to be successful now and in the future.

When our students return to school on Wednesday, August 3, our teachers will be ready to greet them and provide new opportunities to learn and with exciting school experiences. Please note the new arrival time for all students 7:35 AM. Students must be in their seat to maximize instructional time. As always, we look forward to getting to know each and every child, meeting their academic needs, and challenging them to be the best they can be.

I am very excited about the upcoming year! To ensure a great start for each child, the staff and I have spent time analyzing student performance data, identifying successful teaching strategies and reaffirming our commitment to make Austin Road Elementary an environment that reflects high expectations and opportunities for all students. SSC has done an exceptional job in preparing the building to ensure an inviting environment for all stakeholders. Our office staff has worked hard to register new students. Please know that we are committed to the education and success of each student and seek to nurture a strong partnership between home and school. Our Family Engagement, Mrs. Busby is available to answer any questions and provide instructional materials to reinforce learning for our students. I am looking forward to collaborating with you to ensure a high quality instructional program, where all students are learning and Liaison thriving.
